Our tight knit and experienced team of developers, designers, and artists share a passion for storytelling, game mechanics, and creating unforgettable gaming experiences. We are currently seeking a creative, motivated, and enthusiastic Junior Game Designer to join our team and contribute to the development of our latest project. 

If you like getting hands on in-engine using tools to make content for players then this is the job for you. 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the design team to create and implement engaging game content and levels that align with the overall narrative and gameplay objectives.

  • Assist in developing points of interest, characters, encounters and events.

  • Support the creation of design briefs, blockouts, flowcharts, and level layouts.

  • Participate in playtesting sessions, gathering and analysing feedback to iterate on and improve game features and mechanics.

  • Coordinate with artists, programmers, and other team members to ensure the smooth integration of design elements into the game engine.

  • Continuously research and keep up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging game design techniques and technologies.

  • Attend regular team meetings and contribute to the overall creative direction and vision of the game.

Requirements:

  • We are most interested in candidates who have created fun game content; be that indie games on itch.io, mods, levels or quests in Twine.

  • Bachelor's degree in game design, interactive media, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience, or experience in the indie scene. 

  • A specific strength in one of these areas: level design, encounter design, combat design, environment design or quest design. 

  • Strong knowledge of game design principles, including mechanics, storytelling, and level design.

  • A deep understanding of first-person shooter and role-playing games.

  • Working knowledge of the level editor in Unreal Engine.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and concisely.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Passion for gaming and a deep understanding of what makes games fun and engaging.

  • A working knowledge of Unreal Blueprints and the Unreal Ecosystem.

Pluses:

  • A familiarity with source control such as SVN or Perforce. 

  • Prior experience in the game industry or working on game projects, particularly within the FPS RPG genre.

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python.

  • Experience with level editing tools, 3D modelling software, or animation tools.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing game design work, including personal projects.
